Hideaway” is a 218 word poetic text I assembled from eleven different conversations with local residents about Spirituality. The poem speaks of transience and the daily transformation of the natural surroundings of Berwick and its position the estuary of the Tweed. The music grew out of the letters and rhythms of the words in the poem. The evolving structure presented an exchange between choirs each embodying “sea and river”, “land” and “sky”. Beneath this sonic tapestry, a whisper chorus articulates the passing elements and shifting sections in the poem as the landscape continually ebbs, flows and changes.
